•• * Cловари по-прежнему не воспринимают описанное в статье vogue words «Моего несистематического словаря» употребление слова breathless как отдельное значение, очевидно предполагая, что заложенная здесь метафора (запыхавшись, не переводя дыхания) вполне очевидна. По-моему, это не так – речь идет не об окказиональном словоупотреблении, а именно о новом значении. Не говоря уже о том, что оно почти всегда ставит перед переводчиком непростую задачу нахождения контекстуального варианта перевода. Диапазон большой – от эмоциональности или тенденциозности до бездумности (чего не сделаешь «впопыхах»!).

•• А сейчас мы не долго думая соглашаемся на строительство новых башен, как если бы тем самым могли мгновенно оставить позади прошлое и устремиться в будущее.
•• Следующая цитата – на тему об освещении иракской войны в английских и американских СМИ:

•• Может быть, безоглядная/крикливая тенденциозность. А если быть посмелее, то можно попробовать и какое-нибудь более оригинальное слово, типа фанаберии (по Ожегову, кичливость, спесь, мелкое чванство).
•• В следующем примере употребления слова breathless трудно определить, имеем ли мы дело с контекстуальным вариантом значения (и контекстуальным переводом) или с новым значением (оттенком значения):
